Temporomandibular Joint (Jaw pain)

The temporomandibular joint connects the jaw to the skull, allowing for movement (Talking, eating, expression). 


TMJ dysfunction is quite common. Symptoms can include - 

  • Discomfort whilst eating
  • Pain around the jaw
  • Jaw clicking or locking
  • headache (commonly located around the temples) 
  • Neck or shoulder pain
  • Ringing in the ears or dizziness


Dysfunction of the temporomandibular joint can occur for many reasons. 

  • Injury to the joint
  • Clenching 
  • Grinding (Bruxism) 
  • Fibromyalgia 
  • Cervical spine invovlement


Treatment options 

  • If its stress related? Try mindfulness activities, laying in the sun, reading, meditation, yoga, journally, time with loved ones 
  • Avoid tough or chewy foods 
  • Heat or ice

  • Get adjusted! We will take a comprehensive health history and physical assessment. This helps guide us to the root cause of the problem, spine, cranials (bones of the skull), TMJ etc. and help determine the right treatment option for you.
